Dear Parents and Westwood Heights Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2022-2023 educational progress for McMonagle Elementary. The (AER) addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability and teacher quality. Using data found in the AER report, McMonagle Elementary has created a school improvement plan now known as the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MCIP) that addresses raising student achievement in all core subject areas. McMonagle’s MCIP will identify annual measurable objectives that will serve as strategic targets. The plan also identifies activities and strategies that will be used to reach those targets. A key initiative that will continue to be implemented at McMonagle Elementary to increase achievement is the use of our new Curriculum (Benchmark Advance) for reading and new math curriculum (SAAVAS). These curriculum components are being used in grades First – Sixth to drive instruction, and common core assessments will be created to accelerate positive academic outcomes.
State law requires that we also report additional information.
1. Students that live within the designated school boundaries can attend McMonagle Elementary. Additionally, families who are not residents of the Westwood Heights School District may apply for Out of District Schools of Choice. Please contact Mrs. Bridget Ennis, intake official, for assistance (810)591-4321.
2. McMonagle Elementary, along with the entire Westwood Heights School District, received district wide full accreditation from the AdvancED School Accreditation Program during the 2022-2023 school year. McMonagle Elementary also maintains a continuous School Improvement Plan now called MCIP that is revised and updated annually to meet state and district guidelines.
3. McMonagle Elementary is a 2nd -6th elementary building with 381 students enrolled. The staff consists of 26 highly qualified teachers, certified paraprofessionals, and student support staff. The school offers a well-rounded education for all students with the addition of music and computer classes for all students in 2nd -6th grade weekly.
4. Curriculum is developed and implemented in accordance with the Michigan Common Core Curriculum. For a copy of the core curriculum standards, please contact McMonagle Elementary Principal, Darryl Grace.
5. The State’s Standardized Assessment (M-STEP) for 2022-2023 has not been posted at this time. The test is scheduled for the Spring of 2023.
6. McMonagle Elementary prides itself on communicating with parents during the parent/teacher conferences and school events. The McMonagle Elementary teachers extend themselves by conferring with parents by other means such as phone conferences and virtual meetings during 2022-2023 conferences to attempt to reach every parent. This past year, our participation rate was 85% with conferring with parents and families.
In closing, it is with great pride and enthusiasm that the team at McMonagle Elementary presents this report to you. We recognize the important role we play in helping our students reach their full potential, and the McMonagle Elementary staff works diligently towards student academic success. We truly believe all students can be successful, and this belief drives the work we do daily.
