February 7, 2022

Dear Parents and Westwood Heights Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2021-2022 educational progress for McMonagle Elementary.  The (AER) addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws.  The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability and teacher quality.  If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Darryl Grace, Principal, for assistance (810) 591-2733.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site or Westwood Heights’ web site: https://www.mischooldata.org/AER2019/CombinedReport2.aspx?Common_Locations=1-S,6512,1669,80&Common_LocationIncludeComparison=False&Portal_InquiryDisplayType=None or you may review a copy in the main office at McMonagle Elementary.

For the 2021-2022 school year, schools were identified using definitions and labels as required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  A Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) school is one that has at least one underperforming student subgroup.  An Additional Targeted Support (ATS) school is one that has three or more underperforming student subgroups.  A Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school is one whose performance is in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state or has a graduation rate at or below 67%.  Some schools are not identified with any of these labels.  In these cases, no label is given.

McMonagle Elementary has not been given one of these labels.

Using data found in the AER report, McMonagle Elementary has created a school improvement plan now known as the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MCIP) that addresses raising student achievement in all core subject areas.  McMonagle’s MCIP will identify annual measurable objectives that will serve as strategic targets.  The plan also identifies activities and strategies that will be used to reach those targets.  A key initiative that will continue to be implemented at McMonagle Elementary to increase achievement will continue to use a new ELA curriculum for reading. Our new math curriculum is called SAVVA and we are seeing progress in math.  These curriculum components are being used in grades KDG – Sixth to drive instruction, and common core assessments will be created to accelerate positive academic outcomes.

The district by State law requires that we also report additional information.

1. Students that live within the designated school boundaries are able to attend McMonagle Elementary.  Additionally, families who are not residents of the Westwood Heights School District may apply for Out of District Schools of Choice. Please contact Mrs. Bridget Ennis, intake official, for assistance (810)591-4321.

2. McMonagle Elementary, along with the entire Westwood Heights School District, received district wide full accreditation from the AdvancED School Accreditation Program during the 2021-2022 school year.  McMonagle Elementary also maintains a continuous School Improvement Plan now called MCIP that is revised and updated annually to meet State and district guidelines.

3. McMonagle Elementary is a K-6 elementary building with 447 students in attendance.  The staff consists of 34 highly qualified teachers, certified paraprofessionals, and student support staff.  The school offers a well-rounded education for all students with the addition of Music and Computer classes for all students K-6 weekly.

4. Curriculum is developed and implemented accordingly with the Michigan Common Core Curriculum.  For a copy of the core curriculum standards, please contact McMonagle Elementary Principal, Darryl Grace.

5. The State’s Standardized Assessment (M-Step) for 2021-2022 the data will be on the website.

6. McMonagle Elementary prides itself with communicating with parents during the parent/teacher conferences.  In an attempt to meet with every parent, the McMonagle Elementary teachers extend themselves by conferring with parents by other means such as phone conferences and virtual meetings during 2021-2022 conferences.  This past year, our participation rate is 100% with conferring with parents and families.

In Closing, it is with great pride and enthusiasm that the team at McMonagle Elementary presents this report to you.  We recognize the important role we play in helping our students reach their full potential, and the McMonagle Elementary staff works diligently working towards student academic success.  We truly believe all students can be successful, and this belief drives the work we do on a daily basis.  Through our continuous dedication and devotion to our students and families, we will continue to strive towards achievement.

Respectfully,

Darryl Grace
