Parental Involvement Plan

2019-2020

“CREATING A CULTURE OF CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENT” 

 

Goal I:  McMonagle Elementary will use various communication strategies to provide additional information to parents and to increase parental involvement in supporting classroom instruction.

1.  The MCM website will make available to parents important classroom and academic information.

2.  Parents will be able to access student attendance and grades through ParentVue.

3.  MCM provides report cards to parents every 9-week marking period with information regarding their child’s academic progress.

4.  District-Wide Phone Messaging System to remind families of important dates and upcoming events.

5.  Communication between home and school may include but not limited to the following:  phone calls, emails, texts, Remind 101, or handwritten notes. 

Goal II:  McMonagle Elementary will hold regularly scheduled parent meetings, conferences, and activities throughout the school year providing flexible meeting times with the goal of increasing parental involvement and building staff and parent capacity to engage in these types of efforts.

1.  MCM will offer parents the opportunity to attend parent involvement meetings throughout the school year.  These meetings will provide information to help parents enhance their child’s education, as well as provide opportunities to volunteer/help support their child’s classroom/school. 

2.  MCM will encourage parents in the following types of roles and activities to increase their involvement and support for student learning. 

  • Kindergarten/New Student Seminars (August)
  • Open House (September)
  • PTO (Monthly-alternating day/time)
  • Trunk or Treat (October)
  • Book Fair (November)
  • Family Literacy Night (March)
  • Family Math Night (October/January)
  • Science Fair (April)
  • Kindergarten Round-Up (April)
  • Family Carnival – Math/ELA (May)

 

Goal III:   McMonagle Elementary will provide information to parents about volunteer opportunities. 

1.  MCM will provide a list of volunteer opportunities to solicit ideas for other types of volunteer efforts during the orientation of parents, encourage them to become involved in the school.

2.  MCM will offer training sessions that will provide parents with the information they need to participate as school volunteers in order to make the experience successful.

3.  Teachers will be provided ongoing professional development designed to enhance the understanding of effective parental involvement strategies. 

Goal IV:  McMonagle Elementary will provide opportunities for parents to be involved in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school-wide school improvement plan. 

1.  School Improvement Planning Committees.

2.  The School Improvement Committee will meet three times a school year.  The beginning meeting will consist of an evaluation of improvement efforts.  During the mid-year meeting, the committee will begin to analyze and develop a plan for the upcoming school year.  The end of the year meeting will include planning and implementation efforts for the upcoming school year improvement efforts. 

Goal V:  McMonagle Elementary will provide resources for parents.

1.  The school will create and maintain a parent resource center.

2.  In an effort to promote and support parents, as funds are available, purchase parenting books, magazines, and other informative materials regarding support.

3.  McMonagle Elementary principal will appoint a Parent Involvement Coordinator. 

Shared Responsibilities for High Student Performance:

McMonagle Elementary shall develop a school-parent- student compact.  The compact shall outline how parents, school faculty and staff, and the student will share the responsibility for improved student achievement.  It will also provide means by which the school and parents will build a partnership to help students build and achieve the state’s high academic standards.  Compacts will be provided in languages that all parents can understand.  Parent/Student/School Compacts will be revised annually and parent input will be solicited through newsletters, website, surveys, and parent meetings.
